Carnegie Hill Neighbors recently attended Crain’s 2017 Business Breakfast Forum where Marisa Lago, the Director of the NYC Department of City Planning address attendees. Please read below for more details.
The director of the Department of City Planning dismissed concerns that Mayor Bill de Blasio’s effort to ease the housing crunch by rezoning 15 neighborhoods was moving too slowly and being stymied by opposition.
“I have to smile when I hear questions about the pace of rezonings,” said Marisa Lago, who also chairs the New York City Planning Commission, at a breakfast forum hosted by Crain’s New York Business on Thursday in Midtown.
“We frequently will hear a question like this why does it take so long, why are we spending years working with the neighborhood? And at the other end of the spectrum, at times when we introduce a proposal people will say, ‘Wow, wait, it’s too soon, we need more study.’ Zoning is something that one does for the long term.”
